Response to Alice Notley's 'Lady Poverty'

Sarah Hopkins

('Lady Poverty', Mysteries of Small Houses, Penguin 1998, pp 138-9)

Corner without food.

Loss is starting. Yet
consigned from,  to roam
trust leaning seasons'

    impoverishment.

Nothing sings a shape.
Pure dirt face count for
more years mean sharper

    impoverishment.

Another's nothing
rich,  yet gullies dream
against this, Alice.
